How to Apply for an IPC Course

IPC Courses do not have formal prerequisites. However, in order for delegates to gain from the training, they should be competent soldering operators and be sufficiently IT literate to be able to effectively take an on-line examination. If in any doubt as to your suitability for the courses, please contact us before making a booking. 

 

Please make sure that you book at least two weeks before the published course start date, so that an IPC examination may be booked for you.

IPC-J-STD-001

The IPC/EIA J-STD-001 Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies has emerged as a major authority for electronics assembly manufacturing. The standard describes materials, methods and verification criteria for producing high quality soldered interconnections, including the use of lead-free solders.

 

The standard emphasizes process control and sets industry-consensus requirements for a broad range of electronic products.

 

IPC-J-STD-001 application specialist training consists of 5 modules:

 

Module 1: General requirements with open- and closed-book tests; no workmanship
Module 2: Wire preparation & terminals with open-book test; workmanship
Module 3: Through-hole PCB with open-book test; workmanship
Module 4: Surface-mount PCB with open-book test; workmanship
Module 5: Inspection & Process control with open-book test; no workmanship

 

Module 1 is compulsory, plus at least one other.

 

Course duration: approximately 1 day per module.

 

A working copy of the IPC-J-STD-001 standard will be made available to each participant. It is strongly recommended that a standard is purchased for each participant to take away for future reference.

 

WHO SHOULD ATTEND IPC-J-STD-001 APPLICATION SPECIALIST TRAINING?

 

The practical elements of this course make it particularly suited to assembly operators, production supervisors and process engineers.

 

It is also relevant to anyone responsible for the quality and reliability of electronic assemblies including maintenance technicians, quality & inspection personnel.

 

IPC-A-610

IPC-A-610 Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies is the most widely used standard published by the IPC.

It has an international reputation as the source for end product acceptance criteria for consumer and high reliability printed wiring assemblies.

 

An industry developed and approved program that includes training, certification and instructional materials based on the IPC-A-610 is available to your company. This certification will demonstrate your commitment to customer requirements and greatly assists any company dedicated to ISO-9000 or other quality assurance initiatives.

 

This training and certification has immediate recognition, legitimacy and value throughout the electronics industry.

 

IPC-A-610 application specialist training consists of 9 modules:

 

Module 1: Introduction, Policies and Procedures
Module 2: Foreword, Applicable documents & Handling
Module 3: Hardware Installation
Module 4: Soldering (inc. high voltage)
Module 5: Terminal connections (also requires Modules 4 & 8)
Module 6: Through-hole technology (inc. jumper wires); (also requires Mod 4 & 8)
Module 7: Surface-mount assemblies (inc. jumper wires); (also requires Mod 4 & 8)
Module 8: Component damage, PCB’s and assemblies
Module 9: Solderless Wire Wrap

 

Minimum is Modules 1 & 2 plus one other. Maximum is all modules.

 

Course Duration: 3 Days if all modules are required; otherwise duration varies according to the number of modules required.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND IPC-A-610 APPLICATION SPECIALIST TRAINING?

 

The IPC-A-610 Application Specialist course is most suited to quality personnel especially inspectors and quality engineers and managers.

 

This course is also relevant to anyone responsible for the quality and reliability of electronic assemblies including maintenance technicians, operators, process engineers buyers, sales teams and management.

 

IPC-A-620

IPC/WHMA-A-620 Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies is the first industry consensus standard for cable and wire harness fabrication and installation. Classes of products are defined and include criteria for Target, Acceptable, Process Indicator and Defect conditions to support the collection of visual quality acceptability requirements for each class.

IPC-VT58

IPC-VT58 Introduction to Wire Crimping is designed to provide employees with a visual overview of the wire crimping process. VT-58 explains the terminology and anatomy of crimping and reviews quality assurance requirements.

  • explores wire types, insulation, diameters, gauges, variation and stripping processes (manual and automatic)
  • details manual, semi-automatic, and fully automatic crimping systems - including setup /  calibration, bend testing, crimp height measurement, pull testing and production
  • explains terminal types, open and closed barrels, and types of contacts
  • reviews acceptance criteria and analysis of typical problems

This training session can be customised to form a 1- or 2-day training program including practical crimping exercises relevant to your organisation.
